We’ll be staying in Molyvos on the beautiful island of Lesvos (or Lesbos — the Greeks often have 2 or three ways of saying the same thing).
An art immersion experience…
for those who want to spend time painting on a sunny greek island. We’ll have painting lessons and excursions. Plan to experiment with new techniques and styles. You’ll have free time in the afternoons for café chats, more painting or walking about town.
Museums
You’ll fly or take the ferry from Athens to Mytilini. It’s worthwhile to take an extra day in the city of Mytilini and visit the Archaeological Museum.

In Molivos you’ll feel the sea breeze on your face as you watch swallows dive gracefully through the sky in search of a meal. Strolling through the village takes you back in time, still much like it was many generations ago. The cobble streets are as bumpy and hard and the broad wisteria vines shade the main shopping street. Friendly shopkeepers greet you as you walk past, saying “Kali Mera” or good day.
This place is so quiet! …and beautiful and special. It is a world apart in many ways from the hustle and bustle, the consumerism and commercialism in the US. Coming here gives us time to sketch, to read, to walk in the countryside, to eat fresh food, to tell and listen to stories with friends and to appreciate the basics of life that we tend to lose touch with in the States. The people are warm and friendly, many understand English. In April the weather is mostly mild and pleasant.
Instead of indulgent beach resorts, the island has wonderful walking trails, picturesque villages, 1,000 year old pine forests, ancient olive groves, gravelly beaches and fishermen who still head out in the evenings in ragtag wooden boats to fish or to catch octopus and squid. It’s not a paradise by the standards of Madison Avenue but in most ways it’s better. More real, more about the heart than about getting ahead, more about the soul than about dollars and cents. If you’ve ever wanted to come. Now is the time to plan a visit to Greece, especially Molivos.
Sit and paint while you grab a bite to eat at the Tropicana
It’s located in a triangular courtyard where cobbled paths meet, nestled between restaurants. Taxia will take good care of you while serving up some of the best Greek food around and is likely to engage you in lively conversation as well.
