YOUR VIEW FROM THE BALCONY!
Laura Shea and I went exploring in Croatia last May and found an ideal venue
— the charming village of CAVTAT (pronounced tsovtot)
THE OLD TOWN OF DUBROVNIK
In this historic city you’ll be charmed by white stone walls, the picturesque Adriatic coast, great food & wine,
clean water, gorgeous scenery, striking architecture, Roman ruins
and well preserved antiquities
CAVTAT HARBOR
Croatia will appeal to travelers who have already been to many European countries
and are ready to get off the beaten track to discover a fascinating part of the world. Our lodging and classroom overlooks the harbor,
and a short walk or bus ride takes you down to the village center — an ideal place for plein air painting.
WONDERFUL RESTAURANTS
The Croatian coastline is spectacular and the seafood is excellent (not to mention, affordable). There are many fine restaurants to choose from
along the seafront. Of course, there’s also great local wine — and ice cream!
SILK MAKING
Historically, silk thread was crafted and used for their traditional embroidery.
See how artisans are revisiting this labor-intensive practice
ARTISTRY & COSTUME
Through the ages, artisans within the families have passed on woven patterns of silk embroidery and silver filigree
and their ethnic costumes are still worn for celebrations today.
VILLA RADOVIK
This contemporary, white stone lodge will be our home base.
Owners Anita and Pero are so friendly and helpful that soon they will feel like part of your family.
COMMUNITY KITCHEN
Finding the melograno (pomegranate) painting in the community kitchen made us feel right at home!
Imagine painting on the large balcony overlooking the harbor
MUCH TO PAINT
The waterfront of Cavtat is a delightful place to sketch or paint.
You’ll find inspiration of all kinds — landscape or seascape, figures or portraits as well as abstract patterns
in rocks or weeping pine branches.
STECCI
Huge medieval tombstones with symbolic carvings can be found in hilltop graveyards.
There are several examples of this gothic art near Cavtat, placed always in rural areas.
PARTING SHOT — View from Villa Radovic
a short walk down the gently stepped path and you are at the Cavtat waterfront!
You’ve captured it all, Rene! Though I’ve done lots of traveling, at first sight, I was more excited by Croatia than any of the exotic places I’ve ever visited. I absolutely love the people, vistas, walkways, sea side, sea food, history, tranquility, tradition, ease, affordability AND much much more. . . Here is “the life”, the inspiration, and atmosphere that will stimulate your creative juices! Let’s paint! Let’s explore! Let’s eat! Let’s learn! Let’s make new friends! Let’s go! I’m sure you will love it too!
