COLOR LOVE

I AM FOND OF COLOR

My husband sometimes refers to me as “COLOR LOVE” and I suppose that’s a pretty apt description!

When it comes to communicating visually, color speaks volumes. Understanding how to use color and the pigments that we express it with allows us to paint with confidence.

Once a year I offer a COLOR WORKSHOP where we practice and play with using color in new ways.

COLOR WORKSHOP DATES for 2020

November 18 & 19

This simple wheel is a split complimentary wheel. The pigments we use aren’t exact pure primaries and often include a bit of the other primaries. We mix pure color by staying within the neighboring colors. Mix across the wheel to create beautiful neutral tones.

GRANULATING PIGMENT

Understanding Pigment Properties is essential for mixing paint effectively.

We will play with…

GRANULATING pigments, prized for their textural qualities

OPAQUE paints that have great covering power but don’t necessarily mix well

STAINING pigments which carry a brilliant color punch and have super fine particles

MIXING GREENS

This color wheel is one I’ve made with actual pigments in my palette, mixing them the way I would when painting to get a variety of color. I’m mixing with water to make lighter TINTS around the outside and mixing with the compliment to get a darker SHADE around the inside of the wheel.

SPLENDOR

“I’m intensionally playing with color across the spectrum in this painting. Working from a photo of my friend Harriett, I am following the concept that every color has a value, and when you stay true to your value pattern you can make the color sing any tune you want.”
